About Travis
For more than 25 years, Travis has worked to acquire his horsemanship skills as an instructor, trainer, and saddle maker. Growing up in Idaho and working for ranches in different states, he developed a method of handling horses and cattle that has had lasting results. He is continually refining his program starting young horses and dealing with remedial issues in older horses.
Not only does his method of training produce solid horses, it facilitates the sharing of his knowledge with his students. Travis trains and teaches out of his facility in Mineral Wells, Texas, and he is the lead instructor for the equestrian program at the Northstar Academy in Arlington, Texas. In just one year Northstar students have evolved from mere equestrian "passengers" to "trainers in progress".
Passing on this hard earned knowledge to eager students is something he is most passionate about. From fundamentals to advanced maneuvers, his goal is building confidence for horse and rider. He realizes the value of teaching leadership skills, honesty and riding for tomorrow. Ultimately, no matter what horse you ride or care for in your lifetime, your education will always stay with you.
The success of Dittmer's unique approach has been clear by his honors from the increasingly popular Mustang Challenges. To date, he has competed in four Mustang Challenges, consistently placing in the top 10 on five horses. A strong supporter, he promotes the mustang as the true test of a horseman's ability. That's why he chose to show a six year old mustang, Romeo, with only 130 days of training for the Project Cowboy competition.
Like the American Mustang who represents toughness and a determined spirit, Travis Dittmer has an iron willed spirit tempered with a genuine love for people and horses. Travis, his wife Stephanie and their twin boys, Jayde and Jerrad, work together to keep it a family-friendly place to come and learn while enjoying the company of 2 and 4 legged friends. We welcome your calls and hope to see you on the trail soon!
